Privacy Policy for Mail Reader

1. Introduction


Mail Reader (“the App”) is a freemium Android application developed by Appkraft s.r.o., based in Slovakia.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, process, and protect your information when you use the App.

2. Information We Access

Gmail Access via OAuth

Mail Reader connects to your Gmail account using Google OAuth 2.0 and requests access through the following scope:

oauth2:https://mail.google.com/mail/feed/atom/

This scope allows read-only access to Gmail Atom feeds in order to retrieve recent email entries.


Using this access, the App reads:

  • Email header information

  • Sender information

  • A short preview of the email body (typically the first 3–5 sentences)


The App does not:

  • Modify, send, delete, or organize emails

  • Access or download attachments

  • Perform any write operations on the user’s Gmail account

3. How We Use Gmail Data


Gmail data accessed via the Atom feed is used solely to provide the App’s core functionality:

  • Reading email information aloud using text-to-speech

  • Applying user-defined rules and filters for which emails are read


Gmail data is not used for:

  • Advertising or marketing

  • User profiling

  • Analytics

  • Training artificial intelligence or machine learning models

  • Any purpose unrelated to the App’s core functionality

4. Data Storage and Retention

  • Gmail data is processed and stored only locally on the user’s device

  • No Gmail data is transmitted to or stored on our servers

  • Gmail data is retained temporarily for up to 24 hours

  • After 24 hours, the data is automatically deleted from the device


We do not maintain any backend systems that store Gmail or personal user data.

5. Usage Analytics


Mail Reader may collect anonymous usage analytics solely for the purpose of improving app performance and usability.


These analytics:

  • Do not include Gmail content

  • Do not include personally identifiable information

  • Are not shared with third parties

6. Data Sharing


We do not share Gmail data or personal data with third parties.


Google services are used only for:

  • OAuth authentication

  • Secure access to Gmail Atom feeds as explicitly authorized by the user

7. User Control and Choices


Users can:

  • Revoke Mail Reader’s access at any time via their Google Account permissions

  • Stop all Gmail data access by uninstalling the App


Because all data is stored locally and temporarily, uninstalling the App removes all stored data.

8. Security


Mail Reader applies appropriate security measures, including:

  • OAuth 2.0 secure authentication

  • Secure communication with Google services

  • No logging of email content

  • No server-side storage of Gmail data

9. Children’s Privacy


Mail Reader is intended for a general audience and is not specifically directed at children under the age of 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

10. Compliance with Google API Services User Data Policy


Mail Reader’s use of information received from Google services complies with the

Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.


Data accessed through the Gmail Atom feed is:

  • Used only to provide user-facing features

  • Not retained longer than necessary

  • Not shared or repurposed beyond the App’s stated functionality

11. GDPR (EU Users)


For users located in the European Union:

  • Data processing is based on user consent

  • Users may withdraw consent at any time by revoking Google access

  • No personal data is stored on external servers


Mail Reader is designed to minimize data collection and retention by default.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy


We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

Material changes will be communicated within the App.
